International Research Projects

Every year over 400 research projects are conducted at the Kazan University. About half of them are supported by national and international organizations such as the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, the Russian Humanitarian Foundation, the International Science Foundation, the Ford Foundation, CRDF, INTAS, the Leverhulme Trust, the Volkswagen Foundation, DFG and many others. Among these projects are studies on the environment and the evolution of the Volga and the Aral Sea, snow in the Central Antarctic, the dynamic properties of polymer liquids and NMR, problems of oil-recovery reduction in oil strata, potential xenobiotics in water and foodstuffs, post-Soviet cultural transformation, as well as tolerance and intolerance in the post-Soviet Press.

A special project supported by the Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) involves establishing the 'Materials and Technologies of the 21st Century' Centre. The Centre is responsible for promoting new research and curricula in medical physics, radio and telecommunications, information security, plant biotechnology, molecular biology and genetics, supramolecular chemistry and chemistry of nanostructures, synthesis of new laser materials, directed synthesis of substances, investigation of electron structure, and the nature of kinetic and magnetic properties of high-temperature superconductors, among other fields.
