Department of Microbiology

Microbiological work in Kazan University was begun in thirties years of XX century, when Department of Microbiology was the part of the Department of Physiology of Plants and Microbiology. In 1969 two departments were formed from this one: Department of Microbiology and Department of Physiology of Plants. Specialization of the Department of Microbiology is Microbiology with qualification in Molecular Bioliogy. Besides a big attention is paid for specialization of students in Food Microbiology, Sanitary Microbiology, Water Microbiology, Soil and Geological Microbiology, Nature Preservation. Good qualification is given in biochemistry, biotechnology, genetic and cell engineering, enzymology, medical microbiology, virology.

The Laboratory of Biosynthesis and Bioengineering of the Enzymes

Scientific research work in the department:

  • Molecular mechanisms of regulation of biosynthesis of bacterial enzymes. Characteristic of physic-chemical and catalytic properties of bacterial nucleases, proteases, phosphatases, chitinases etc. Mechanisms of biological effects. Role of the enzymes during cell adaptive response.

    Study of regulation of the expression of the genes. Investigation of mechanisms of functioning of the enzymes: chitinases, proteinases, phosphatases, and their role during sporulation.

    The theme have being worked on in The Laboratory of Biosynthesis and Bioengineering of the Enzymes.

  • Study of microbial methabolism, genotoxyc effects and detoxication of ecologically dangerous compounds as the base for further biotechnologies in nature preservation.
  • Molecular mechanisms of cell response to the irritation. Effect of nature and level of the irritating factor, functional cell condition and its differentiation on the type of cell response.
